Siliguri, 08th October: The West Bengal government’s Information and Cultural Affairs Department will organise a special two-day cultural programme at Kawakhali Maidan in Siliguri on October 11 and 12 as part of its Durga Puja celebrations.
A meeting regarding the programme was held at the PWD Inspection Bungalow in Siliguri on Thursday. State Tourism Minister Shankar Ghosh, the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Officer, officials of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department and other administrative officials were present at the meeting.
Shankar Ghosh said noted singer Tirtha Bhattacharya will perform on October 11, while popular singer Antara Mitra will perform on October 12. Various regional bands and artists from North Bengal will also participate in the two-day programme.
The state government is organising similar cultural programmes at seven locations across West Bengal on the occasion of Durga Puja. A major cultural programme will be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on October 10, with programmes being organised in different parts of the state along similar lines.
Ghosh said that many government programmes in the past were largely centred around Kolkata. He said the present government is following a policy of equitable distribution by organising cultural programmes in different districts and cities so that people across the state can participate in such initiatives.
