Siliguri, 07th December: The Darjeeling District Left Front staged a massive rally in Siliguri demanding immediate municipal and sub-divisional council elections in the city and also protested against abnormally high prices of essential commodities. The rally was held in the presence of farmer leader and CPIM politburo member Hannan Mollah.
Farmer leader Hannan Mollah said that farmers across the country have succeeded against the Center by realizing their demands. Twelve workers’ organizations have given proper support to their movement. However, Mollah alleged that all the anti-BJP organizations which are now claiming to be on their side were against the movement at some point in time. He further asserted that the organizations are now supporting the farmers only for the fulfilment of their own political interests. He also demanded compensation for the farmers who were killed in the movement.
