Siliguri, 16th April: With less than a week remaining before the first phase of the Assembly elections, political campaigning has intensified across Siliguri. Candidates from various parties are actively reaching out to voters, and the election fervour is visible across the city’s streets and neighbourhoods.
In this context, Congress candidate Aloke Dhara, contesting from the Siliguri Assembly constituency, carried out his election campaign at the Siliguri Court premises. Describing the location as his political home, he sought support from his supporters and well-wishers.
During the campaign, Dhara said he had begun his association election journey from the same place and expressed enthusiasm over receiving support once again. He voiced confidence that, like the Bar Association elections, he would receive strong backing from the people in the upcoming Assembly polls.
Taking a dig at the prevailing political scenario in Siliguri, Dhara alleged that politics in the city revolves around posters and counter-allegations rather than development. He criticised both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress, claiming that neither party had undertaken substantial work for the city’s progress.
He further stated that if genuine development had been carried out by the MLA and the Mayor, there would have been no need for grand posters and rallies during election time.
Dhara also asserted that the Congress is contesting the elections independently this time and expressed optimism about delivering a strong performance. He added that he is actively engaging with residents through door-to-door campaigning and receiving a positive response.
