CID will probe Sitalkuchi incident: Mamata Banerjee

Siliguri, 10th April: Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee held a press conference in Siliguri on Saturday evening and highly condemned the Sitalkuchi incident. She stated that a CID probe will be done into the event.

It is to be noted that four people were allegedly shot dead in a clash with security forces outside a polling booth during the fourth phase of elections in Cooch Behar on Saturday. Following this, the Election Commission claimed that the central forces fired in self-defence.

During the press conference, Banerjee claimed that the incident was pre-planned and accused the BJP of trying to spread hate and violence in Bengal. She further stated that some people took pictures of the episode which were allegedly deleted forcibly. She asserted that such events are taking place as per the instructions of the centre.

“The central forces are working under political direction. They (centre) planned the massacre and are now planning to give a clean chit to the central forces,” Banerjee alleged. She expressed outrage and said that killing voters is equivalent to killing the democracy of the country.

On the other hand, the Trinamool supremo demanded the resignation of Special Police Observer Vivek Dubey and Home Minister Amit Shah. She further informed that she will visit Mathabhanga tomorrow and will pay homage to the deceased individuals. She will also meet their families. Following which, she will leave for Alipurduar.

Meanwhile, TMC will take to the streets in every block on Sunday to protest against the incident.
