Businessman missing from Siliguri for 24 hours, wife alleges kidnapping

Siliguri, 12th March: An export-import businessman has been missing from Siliguri for the past 24 hours, with his wife alleging that he has been kidnapped. The missing businessman has been identified as Akramul Haque, a resident of Itahar.

As per reports, Akramul Haque has been engaged in the export-import business of raw materials in Siliguri for the past seven years. On Tuesday, he traveled to Champasari for work but went missing from the area.

Later that night, his wife Mausumi received a message from an unknown number claiming that Akramul had been kidnapped. The message alleged that one of his business partners was behind the abduction and demanded a ransom of ₹50 lakh. It further stated that around ₹38 lakh had already been taken from Akramul through threats, yet he had not been released.

On Wednesday, Mausumi arrived in Siliguri from Itahar with her two-month-old daughter in search of her husband. She attempted to lodge a complaint at Siliguri police station but was allegedly redirected to Bhakti Nagar and then to Pradhan Nagar police station, with none registering her complaint.

Ultimately, she filed a written complaint at the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, following which the police initiated an investigation.

Mausumi expressed her distress, stating that she has had no information about her husband for the last 24 hours. She also mentioned that the ransom message she received had been deleted. She has urged the police administration to take immediate action and find her husband as soon as possible.
