Fulbari, 01st September: A pharmacy in Fulbari’s Purba Dhantala area was allegedly targeted by thieves, who escaped with around ₹4 lakh to ₹4.5 lakh in cash.
According to reports, the incident took place at a pharmacy near Natun Bazar. The miscreants allegedly gained entry by cutting through the tin roof and breaking the false ceiling. They reportedly stole the cash kept inside the shop and fled.
Shop owner Kamal Prasad Bhagat said he closed the pharmacy and returned home at around 11:30 PM on Monday, as usual. When he arrived at the shop on Tuesday morning, he found the shutter intact from the outside. However, the tin roof and ceiling above had been cut open. On checking inside, he found that the cash was missing.
Bhagat stated that around ₹4 lakh to ₹4.5 lakh had been kept at the pharmacy to make a payment to a distributor.
It is also alleged that the thieves severed the connection to the shop’s CCTV cameras during the incident.
Local resident Paran Mondal described the theft as extremely unfortunate. Residents have demanded a thorough investigation and the immediate arrest of those involved, along with increased police patrolling in the area.
Following the incident, police from New Jalpaiguri Police Station reached the spot, inspected the premises and initiated an investigation.
