Fulbari, 19th September: Minister Dilip Ghosh held an administrative review meeting at Uttar Kanya with officials from Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts. Development works in the hills and Dooars, the situation in panchayats, the functioning of the GTA and staff shortages were discussed in detail during the meeting.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Dilip Ghosh said the review was good and detailed, but work had not progressed as expected in several areas. He said problems in the hills, staff shortages in the GTA and heavy rainfall had slowed down the pace of development works to some extent.
The minister said the issues had been identified after discussions with each BDO and expressed hope that the pace of work would increase in the coming days.
On allegations of corruption, Ghosh said corruption exists in various places. He said special audits were being conducted in around 10 percent of panchayats where complaints had been received. He also alleged that there were complaints of corruption in the GTA and said steps were being taken to address shortages of staff and infrastructure.
During the media interaction, Ghosh was also asked about the political situation in the state and the upcoming by-elections. Responding to questions about the bypolls and defections, he said anyone could file a nomination as there was still time. He added that the problems faced by other political parties were not the BJP’s responsibility.
Claiming that the people of Bengal were seeking development from the BJP, Ghosh said the bypoll results would also go in that direction and claimed that the BJP would win by a large margin.
