Rajganj, 25th September: The BJP has taken control of Rajganj’s Binnaguri Gram Panchayat, with BJP’s Rohini Barman being elected as the new Pradhan.
The Pradhan election process was completed on Friday in the presence of an official from the BDO office. Rohini Barman was elected Pradhan in the presence of 10 BJP panchayat members.
Earlier, on August 31, BJP’s Pratima Singh Roy was elected as the Deputy Pradhan of Binnaguri Gram Panchayat.
Binnaguri Gram Panchayat has a total of 30 seats, of which the Trinamool Congress had won 18, the BJP 10 and the CPI(M) two. Although the TMC had a majority of seats, the election of Rohini Barman as Pradhan has resulted in the BJP taking control of the panchayat.
Following the Pradhan election, BJP workers and supporters celebrated the development with a band party and saffron-coloured gulal.
Newly elected Pradhan Rohini Barman said their primary objective is to work for the people of Binnaguri. He said resolving drinking water problems and providing toilets in various areas would be among their priorities. He also said allegations of corruption against the previous board would be looked into.
Rajganj BJP Block Convener Nitai Mondal said that after a long wait, the BJP had formed the board in Binnaguri with the 10 panchayat members. He said the opposition parties had been invited but did not attend. However, he added that they want to work with the opposition for the development of Binnaguri and its people.
