Siliguri, 29th January: Two BJP MLAs Shankar Ghosh and Shikha Chatterjee reached Jyoti Nagar area of Siliguri today to meet the family members of Somnath Saha.
It is to recall, on Tuesday, Somnath Saha, a meritorious student of Siliguri Boys High School, committed suicide. The deceased’s father Subir Saha said that Somnath used to be always concerned about his studies. He assumed that his son committed suicide out of mental depression. After the incident, Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh and Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee met the family of the deceased student and expressed condolences.
On seeing the MLAs, the relatives of Somnath questioned why the schools are being kept shut? They asserted that Somnath would not have been stressed and would not have chosen such a drastic path, had the schools reopened.
MLA Shankar Ghosh also stressed on the need to open the school and said that the state government should take some initiative to free the students from mental stress during the Covid period.
