Siliguri, 05th October: Bagdogra Police have arrested two people on suspicion of interstate gold smuggling and recovered four gold biscuits weighing 466 grams from a concealed chamber in a Fortuner car.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sawan Kumar (29) and Raman Kumar (27), both residents of Saharsa, Bihar.
According to police, naka checking was being conducted in the Gossainpur area on Sunday evening based on confidential information. During the checking, a black Fortuner with a Bihar registration number was stopped and searched.
Four gold biscuits were recovered from a specially made chamber beneath the bonnet of the vehicle.
During questioning, the two accused allegedly failed to produce valid documents related to the gold, following which they were arrested.
Police have also seized the Fortuner vehicle along with the gold. During the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the gold was being taken from Siliguri to Bihar.
The two accused will be produced before the Siliguri court on Monday, where police are expected to seek their remand.
