‘Anti-Romeo Squad’ to be deployed for women’s safety during Durga Puja in Siliguri

Siliguri, 26th September: On the occasion of Durga Puja this year, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police will deploy Anti-Romeo Squad for the safety of women in the city. This was revealed by Siliguri Police Commissioner C Sudhakar during a meeting.


Notably, during the Puja, several cases of sexual harassment and molestation surface from different locations in the city. To prevent such incidents, this initiative has been formulated by the police.

On Tuesday, Siliguri Police Commissionerate organized a meeting comprising of various clubs and puja organizers. During this, several issues including permission for puja, traffic arrangements, and surveillance were discussed.


This year, 621 different Durga Pujas are going to be held in the area under the Siliguri Police Commissionerate area. Online applications for permissions are already in progress. From October 3 to 10, applications can be placed for permits at the Police Commissionerate Office in Mallaguri.
