10 stray dogs ‘poisoned to death’ in Siliguri’s Ward No. 18

Siliguri, 26th November: In an instance of brutality against animals, ten stray dogs were allegedly poisoned to death in the area adjacent to Rana Basti under Ward No. 18 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). The incident triggered a massive outrage among the enraged locals and animal welfare organizations in the city.


According to reports, the incident came to light on Saturday night when a local resident who regularly fed the dogs found that the animals were missing from their usual location. Upon further looking for the animals, the individual spotted their deceased carcasses in the nearby sewerage. Subsequently, the matter was reported to an animal welfare organization and the Siliguri police station.

The members of the organizations and the police officials promptly arrived at the scene and recovered the deceased bodies. Reportedly, about four other stray puppies are still missing. In this regard, the locals claimed that several residents in the locality had an objection to the presence of the animals under the multi-storey building which may have prompted someone to the condemnable act. The recovered bodies have been sent to the veterinary for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the police are further investigating the entire incident.
