Youth injured in reckless driving incident on Sevoke Road in Siliguri, driver arrested

Siliguri, 09th March: A youth narrowly escaped death after being injured in a road incident involving a reckless four-wheeler on Sevoke Road in Siliguri on Sunday night. The incident occurred at a time when celebrations were underway across the city following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup.


According to reports, the incident took place in a lane adjoining Sevoke Road under the Panitanki Outpost area. While taking a turn, a four-wheeler allegedly collided with a scooty, leading to an argument between the drivers of both vehicles.

Soon after the incident, local residents gathered at the spot. Seeing the crowd, the driver of the four-wheeler reportedly attempted to flee from the scene. During the chaos, a youth climbed onto the bonnet of the vehicle in an attempt to stop it, but the driver allegedly continued driving at speed, causing the youth to fall onto the road and sustain injuries.


Local residents immediately chased the vehicle and managed to stop it. On receiving information, police from Panitanki Outpost reached the spot, seized the vehicle and arrested the driver.

The accused has been identified as Ketan Goel, a resident of Punjabi Para in Siliguri. The injured youth later lodged a written complaint at Panitanki Outpost.

Police produced the accused driver before a court on Monday. The injured youth has demanded a fair investigation and strict punishment for the accused.

Notably, other similar incident has been reported on Sevoke Road in recent days, including a recent hit-and-run case in which a youth lost his life and a woman was seriously injured. Another incident involving a woman riding a scooty being hit by a vehicle was also reported earlier. Repeated accidents have created fear and anger among local residents, while concerns continue to rise over reckless driving despite police efforts to control it.
