Cooch Behar, 09th March: A tragic incident unfolded earlier on Saturday morning when a youth lost his life after being electrocuted while hoisting a flag on a tree on the occasion of Mahashivratri. The incident took place in the Balapara area under the Khagrabari Gram Panchayat. The deceased has been identified as Mahendra Bin.
According to reports, the youth had climbed along a bamboo pole in an attempt to hoist a flag on a banyan tree near the Shiva temple in Balapara. However, the tree had a 33,000-volt electric wire dangling through it. Tragically, the wet bamboo pole came into contact with the electric wire resulting the youth’s death in no time.
Upon receiving news of the incident, authorities from the Cooch Behar Fire Department and the Pundibari police station swiftly responded to the scene. Efforts to recover the body were made promptly, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event was initiated by the police.
