Fulbari, 17th September: A youth died in a bike accident while returning after dropping an acquaintance in Siliguri late Wednesday night, casting a pall of grief over the Paschim Amaidighi area under Fulbari-II Gram Panchayat. The deceased has been identified as Dipu Roy.
According to the family, a meeting was held at the Fulbari Parking area on Wednesday night in connection with Vishwakarma Puja. After the meeting ended, an acquaintance reportedly requested Dipu to drop him at Sevoke Road in Siliguri.
Dipu then took the person to Siliguri on his bike. According to the family, the accident occurred near Tinbatti while he was returning after dropping the acquaintance.
The exact circumstances of the accident remain unclear. It has not yet been established how the accident occurred or whether the bike collided with another vehicle.
Family member Gobinda Chandra Roy said they received information about the accident between around 2:30 am and 3 am. By then, police had rescued Dipu in an injured condition and taken him for treatment.
Dipu Roy later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The incident has left the local community mourning.
Police have started an investigation into the accident.
