Siliguri, 05th March: A youth was arrested with a country-made pistol and two rounds of ammunition during a police operation conducted by Bhaktinagar Police Station in the PC Mittal Bus Terminus area of Siliguri.
The arrested accused has been identified as Tapas Roy, a resident of the Dimdima Basti area in Salugara.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off on Wednesday night, officers launched an operation in the PC Mittal Bus Terminus area. During the operation, a youth found moving in a suspicious manner was detained by the police.
Upon searching him, police recovered a country-made pistol and two rounds of live ammunition from his possession, following which he was arrested.
During the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused had brought the weapon with the intention of carrying out a major criminal act.
The arrested youth was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Thursday. Police have started a detailed investigation into the incident.
