Siliguri, 16th June: The Bhakti Nagar police apprehended a youth for alleged fraud posing as an official of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). The youth identified as Nitesh Mandal (24) was a resident of the Rathkhola area.
According to reports, Mandal had been operating under the guise of an SMC official of the drinking water department for an extended period. He allegedly scammed several by promising to facilitate water line connections in exchange for money. The incident came to light when one of his victims from Salugara lodged a complaint at the Bhakti Nagar police station after being defrauded of ₹10,000.
Subsequently, the police launched an investigation and arrested Mandal. During the arrest, authorities recovered ₹9,000 from Mandal’s possession. On Sunday, Mandal was produced before the Jalpaiguri Court as part of the legal proceedings. At present, the entire incident is under further investigation.
