Siliguri, 08th October: A shocking incident of a man attacking his stepmother over a property dispute has come to light. Gopal Pal, a resident of Ashighar, has been arrested by the local police in connection with the brutal assault.
According to police sources, Gopal’s father had gotten married the second time. His stepmother resided in an area under the jurisdiction of Ashighar police station, where she owned a piece of land and a shop. However, the property had been the reason for a longstanding dispute between Gopal and his stepmother.
Allegedly, driven by greed for the land and shop, Gopal launched a vicious attack on his stepmother, stabbing her with a knife. The woman sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for treatment.
Upon learning of the incident, the Ashighar police reached the scene and apprehended the accused stepson. On Tuesday, Gopal was produced before the Jalpaiguri court. The police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
