Workers protest demanding the reopening of a biscuit factory in Ambari

Rajganj, 29th November: After authorities announced the lockout of a biscuit factory situated at Ambari in Rajganj, the workers staged a demonstration today demanding the reopening of the factory. The protest was carried out under the leadership of Trinamool Industrial Estate Workers Union Jalpaiguri district secretary Tapan Dey.


Around 150 workers work at the Sanjay Biscuits factory in Ambari. On Saturday, the factory authorities announced a lockout. The owner alleged that the workers were creating chaos and taking leave without permission. Due to which, production was being stopped from time to time without any reason. Hence, the authorities were compelled to lock out the factory.

On the other hand, Tapan Dey, Jalpaiguri district secretary of the Trinamool Industrial Estate Workers’ Union, accused the employer of not paying the workers on time. And not depositing the employees’ ESI and PF despite money being deducted from their salary. The workers have not yet received puja bonus. He further said that an appeal will be made to the administration to re-open the factory immediately.
