Rajganj, 24th June: Women in the Fulbari area, adjoining Putimari, have launched a campaign advocating for the closure of liquor shops. On Saturday, the women of the community gathered in protest outside a licensed liquor shop located in the Putimari area, urging authorities to shut down the establishment. Reports suggest that during the demonstration, the women allegedly vandalized the liquor shop and an adjacent restaurant. Promptly responding to the incident, the cops from the NJP Police Station arrived at the scene.
According to the women, the liquor shop must be closed due to the problematic behaviour of individuals who purchase liquor from the store and consume it openly on the roadside. This public drinking has led to difficulties in commuting and poses a negative influence on the children in the area. Consequently, the women asserted that the closure of the liquor shop is necessary to address these concerns.
In response, the owner of the liquor shop stated that security personnel have been deployed to prevent customers from purchasing liquor and consuming it outside the premises. However, the owner claimed that some individuals intentionally engage in such behaviour. Regarding the incident, the owner mentioned that several items, including CCTV cameras, were damaged during the protest. The police are currently conducting an investigation to ascertain the full extent of the matter.
