Woman’s half-burnt body found in South Dinajpur: MP Locket Chatterjee today met family of the rape victim in Kumarganj

South Dinajpur, 11th January: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Locket Chatterjee today met the family of the rape victim in Kumarganj, South Dinajpur. After the meet, the MP staged a protest at Kumarganj police station and made striking remarks saying, “Victim’s parents and brother have been picked up by the police. Their phones have been switched off. Because if they will come to us, the truth will come out.”

It is to recall that on January 6 morning, a half-burnt body of a woman was recovered in South Dinajpur. The local people sighted the body of the woman under the enclosed culvert in a vacant field of Safanagar, Kumarganj police station. Following this, on Tuesday, Police arrested three men, including Marhaba Mian (20), for alleged gang rape and murder of the minor. Mian was labeled as the mastermind of the entire incident. He was allegedly in a love affair with the deceased. As per the allegation, Mian along with two of his friends went to the deserted ground in the Kumarganj area and gang-raped the victim. After she collapsed, the accused slashed her internal jugular vein and her stomach with a sharp weapon. The men then set the victim’s body on fire with the help of oil from their motorcycle and threw the flaming body under the culvert.

Today, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee said, “We demand a CBI inquiry in the case. Chief Minister is trying to sweep this case under the carpet. If rapists are not hanged to death, we’ll launch an agitation.”

Almost a week has passed by since the horrific incident and yet no conclusion has been given from the concerned authorities.
