Woman commits suicide due to dowry harassment, police engaged in investigation

Siliguri, 01st March: Sensation prevailed after a woman committed suicide beings fed up with constant dowry harassment after 9 years of marriage. 


 

The incident has surfaced from Niranjannagar colony under Ward No. 36 of Siliguri. Reportedly, Rekha Das was married in 2014 to Sonatan Das, a resident of Niranjan Nagar Colony. It is alleged that Rekha’s husband Sonatan Das and his in-laws started torturing her demanding additional dowry a few days after the marriage. After a while, the torture increased to such an extent that Rekha went to live in her father’s house. Rekha and Sonatan have two children from their marriage. 


 

On Tuesday, a dispute arose between the husband and the wife regarding the demand for dowry. After this, Rekha committed suicide by hanging herself. After the incident, the family members took the housewife to Siliguri District Hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead. The in-laws have been absconding since the incident. 

 

Meanwhile, the parents and relatives of the deceased woman are grieving the loss of their child. Both the children of the deceased have become helpless. The family members of the deceased alleged that Rekha was murdered and then hanged. After the incident, the family members of the deceased lodged a murder complaint at the Siliguri Metropolitan Police’s Ashighar Out Post. The police of Ashighar Out Post have started investigating the whole matter.
