Siliguri, 15th July: Sensation prevailed after a woman committed suicide due to family unrest. The incident surfaced from the Chhobavita area of Fulbari No. 2 Gram panchayat under NJP police station.
According to local sources, Bhogmati Roy, daughter of Hemcharan Roy of Ambari area under Rajganj block, married Sadhin alias Mithu Roy, son of Meghlal Roy from Fulbari Chobavita area, three years ago.
The family members of the deceased alleged that the in-laws of their daughter used to physically and mentally abuse her for a long time. Although an arbitration meeting was held with the local panchayat Pradhan several times, no solution was found. Bhogmati attempted self-immolation on Monday. She was rescued and rushed to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, from where she was later taken to a nursing home in Siliguri. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her burn injuries today.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased lodged a written complaint at the NJP police station against the in-laws of their daughter. Based on the allegation, the Police arrested the deceased’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law. Meanwhile, her husband is absconding since the incident. Police have launched search operations to nab him.
