Siliguri, 02nd October: A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her son following a dispute over money for intoxicants in the Jhauguri area under Matigara Police Station. Police have arrested the accused in connection with the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Sita Bhuiyan (45), while the accused son has been identified as Karan Bhuiyan (18).
According to the allegations, Karan returned home late at night in an intoxicated state and demanded money from his mother. An argument reportedly broke out between the two over the matter and later escalated.
It is alleged that Karan tied up the hands and feet of his younger brother before allegedly strangling his mother to death.
The younger brother reportedly managed to escape and informed neighbours about the incident, following which the police were alerted.
Matigara Police reached the spot on Friday morning and arrested Karan. Locals reportedly said that the accused was allegedly addicted to intoxicants and would frequently quarrel with his mother while under the influence.
Police recovered the woman’s body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination.
The Matigara Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
