Water level of Teesta rises after heavy downpour

Rajganj, 20th October: The water level of the Teesta River has risen close to danger due to continuous heavy rains.

Thousands of families live on the banks of the river in the Gajoldoba area. For the past two days, the river has been overflowing due to heavy rains. As a result, water pressure has increased at Gajoldoba Teesta Barrage. Large settlements could be flooded if the barrage gates are opened to reduce water pressure.

Locals said that they have not witnessed so much rain in the past several years. If the barrage gate is opened now, crops will get damaged and many houses will be submerged under water.
