Visually impaired teacher in Jalpaiguri defies odds, continues teaching for 14 Years

Jalpaiguri, 11th November: In a display of unwavering determination, Subinoy Das, a teacher from Kumar Para Additional Primary School in Belakoba, Jalpaiguri, has defied the odds of his 95% visual impairment to continue teaching for over 14 years. Despite his blindness, he writes on the blackboard and delivers lessons with the same enthusiasm as any other teacher. His students, schoolmates, and parents praise his dedication and teaching methods.

Subinoy Das, the only visually impaired teacher in the North Circle of Jalpaiguri’s Sadar block, commutes to school every day by auto-rickshaw. Once he arrives, his students and colleagues help him navigate to the classroom, where he is seated and ready to begin his lessons. In this regard, the school’s headmaster, Ajit Pal mentioned that despite his increasing blindness, Subinoy continues to teach the children just as he always has.

Subinoy Das began his teaching career at this school in 2011 when his vision was 75% impaired. Over the years, his condition has worsened, but his dedication to his work has only grown stronger. He currently teaches students in classes up to the fourth grade and is responsible for the first-grade students this academic session. Using Braille, Subinoy continues to educate with the full support of his students and colleagues.

Students and parents have expressed great satisfaction with his teaching, with many remarking on the positive atmosphere he creates in the classroom. Subinoy’s wife and daughter stand as his biggest encouragement at home.
