Siliguri, 20th December: Customers visiting a commercial building opposite Siliguri Police Station are allegedly facing unauthorised parking and maintenance charges, raising public concern.
Visitors coming for shopping or banking activities are reportedly being asked to pay fees, with printed coupons stating “Parking and Maintenance Charges” issued for each bike parked.
The building, located within Radha Bazar complex, has a common parking area. However, customers are now charged Rs 10 per bike, including visitors to a bank housed in the building, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the public. Many have described the practice as unjust and inappropriate for a publicly designated parking space.
While citizens express frustration, members of the market committee claim that outside visitors park their bikes for long durations, creating inconvenience, and the fees are meant to maintain the parking facility.
Following the incident, Siliguri Municipal Corporation MMIC Rajesh Prasad Sha stated that officials will be sent to investigate the matter. Appropriate action will be taken if any violation of rules is found.
