Siliguri, 05th September: In a late-night operation, the Pradhan Nagar police apprehended two women, Gauri Devnath, also known as Yashoda, and Mamata Das, in Salbari and seized a substantial quantity of cannabis from their possession.
Reportedly, Gauri and Mamata had reached Naya Basti of Salbari with the intent to distribute cannabis. Local residents quickly became aware of their activities and promptly alerted the Pradhan Nagar police. Upon reaching the scene, the police conducted a search of the women’s bags, uncovering a staggering 5 kilograms of cannabis. Subsequently, both individuals were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During questioning, the accused women revealed that they were acting on behalf of an individual from NJP, who had sent them to transport the cannabis. In exchange for their efforts, they were promised Rs 2,000. Police have initiated further investigation into the matter.
