Siliguri, 28th January: A devastating fire broke out on Monday evening in the area near PC Mittal Bus Stand under Ward No. 41 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC), leaving two quarters completely destroyed.
According to local residents, black smoke was initially seen rising from one of the quarters. The fire quickly spread, engulfing nearby quarters, causing panic in the area.
Two fire engines from Siliguri arrived promptly and, after nearly two hours of effort, managed to control the blaze. However, by then, both quarters had been reduced to ashes, with everything inside completely destroyed.
Ward Councillor Shivika Mittal visited the site soon after the incident and consoled the affected families. She stated that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined and appreciated the efforts of local residents and the fire brigade in controlling the fire.
On Tuesday morning, Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, and Borough Chairman Pritikana Biswas also visited the site to meet the victims and assess the situation.
