Fulbari, 22nd May: The Siliguri Detective Department has arrested two more individuals in connection with the Jotiakali SIM box case. On Tuesday, the accused Raju Roy (27) from Fulbari and Dayal Barman (46) from Siliguri were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the case.
According to police sources, the two suspects were engaged in the illicit activation of SIM cards using the Aadhar cards of unaware individuals. These activated SIM cards were then supplied to the arrested accused Sabbir Ali’s shop, facilitating various illegal operations.
Earlier on May 16, the Special Operation Group (SOG), Detective Department (DD), and NJP police had conducted a raid based on a tip-off about the illegal activities, including the production of counterfeit Aadhaar cards and Voter IDs, in a shop in the Jotiakali area near Fulbari. Subsequently, the officials uncovered three SIM boxes, numerous SIM cards, routers, computers, and various documents from Sabbir Ali’s shop at the Jotiakali More.
Further investigations revealed that the SIM boxes were being used for various criminal activities, primarily for making international calls that cannot be traced. Following the raid, shopkeeper Sabbir Ali was arrested and taken into police remand after being presented in court.
Upon interrogating the accused Sabbir Ali, the names of Raju Roy and Dayal Barman surfaced as accomplices. On Tuesday, both suspects were arrested and later produced before the Jalpaiguri district court on Wednesday.
