Two junior doctors at NBMCH begin indefinite hunger strike

Siliguri, 07th October: Two junior doctors, Souvik Banerjee and Alok Kumar Verma, have initiated an indefinite hunger strike at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) on Monday. The protest is centered around a 10-point list of demands, which includes addressing the R.G. Kar Case.

Earlier, junior doctors in Kolkata had also launched a hunger strike, advocating 10-point demands, including issues related to the R.G. Kar Case. Similarly, on Sunday, 22 junior doctors from NBMCH joined the protest and went on a 24-hour strike.

While the majority of the junior doctors returned to work after the 24-hour period, Banerjee and Verma continued their protest, staging a hunger strike in front of the hospital’s emergency department.

The two junior doctors have stated that the hunger strike will persist until their demands are addressed.
