Alipurduar, 12th August: Sensation prevailed after death of two elephant calves were reported in the Hamiltonganj range Bhutari area under Buxa Tiger Reserve.
As per the report, the locals sighted the elephant carcass lying on the roadside, on Wednesday morning and immediately reported the matter to the forest department. Upon receiving the news, the forest workers reached the spot and recovered the bodies.
Reportedly, the forest workers spotted a high-tension wire across the elephant carcasses. Hamiltonganj Ranger stated that the elephants might have been electrocuted to death. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
