Siliguri, 03rd February: Police have arrested two accused in connection with a theft case under the Siliguri police station area and recovered stolen items from their possession. The incident took place at a house located behind Rathkhola Maidan.
The arrested accused have been identified as Gopal Mandal (28) and Pankaj Basak (34). According to police sources, Gopal Mandal lives in a rented house in the Bagrakot area, while Pankaj Basak is a resident of the Tikiapara area.
Police said the accused took advantage of the house being vacant, broke open the lock in a planned manner, and entered the premises. They allegedly fled with brass utensils, gold and silver jewellery, and cash.
Following the incident, the house owner lodged a complaint at the Siliguri police station. Acting swiftly on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested both accused within a few hours. The stolen items were also recovered.
Both accused were produced before a Siliguri court, where police sought their remand. Further investigation into the case is underway.
