Two arrests made in Siliguri’s Arabinda Pally Murder Case

Siliguri, 24th August: In a significant development, the Siliguri police have apprehended two individuals in connection with the murder of Soma Sarkar, a resident of Arabinda Pally in Siliguri. The victim’s lifeless body was found at her residence last Saturday, prompting an intense investigation that has culminated in the arrests of Rajeev Majumdar and Rohit Dakua, both residents of Siliguri.

Rajeev Majumdar, who runs a medical shop situated beneath the victim’s residence, was known to Soma Sarkar due to his regular supply of medication to her. Sources indicate that Rajeev, accompanied by his associate Rohit, had visited Soma’s home on the night preceding the tragedy, apparently to purchase a saree from her. Allegedly, Rajeev initiated an online transaction for the saree but did not make the payment. Subsequently, he returned the following morning under the pretence of completing the purchase. Tragically, during this visit, he strangled Soma Sarkar, killing her on the spot.

The investigation quickly filed in on Rajeev Majumdar as a suspect, who went to his medical shop shortly after committing the crime. Notably, Soma had told an acquaintance about Rajeev’s visits with his friend, providing critical information that prompted the police’s inquiries. 

DCP Abhishek Gupta, during a press conference at the Siliguri police station, confirmed the arrests of both Rajeev Majumdar and Rohit Dakua in connection with the murder. He also revealed the recovery of some money from the accused individuals.

Soma Sarkar’s daughter expressed her disbelief at Rajeev’s involvement, as he had been known to the family and had been providing medical supplies to her mother. However, upon learning the distressing truth, the victim’s daughter demanded severe punishment for the perpetrators.
