Rajganj, 21st June: The police have taken a married couple into custody on charges of lynching an individual. The accused have been identified as Binod Karoya (28) and Atoyari Karoya (24).
According to reports, on Tuesday morning, the body of a person was discovered in the Pani Kauri area of Majhiali village. The deceased has been identified as Lakshmiram Hembram (35). Local sources have revealed that the deceased had been involved in an illicit relationship with a married woman in the vicinity.
Allegedly, on Monday night, the deceased forcibly entered the woman’s residence, which led to a confrontation with both the husband and wife. The couple allegedly beat him to death during the altercation. The following morning, the body was found in an open space near their house.
Acting on the allegations, the Rajganj police arrested both the accused individuals. They were subsequently presented before the Jalpaiguri court. Accused Binod Karoya, in his statement, claimed that the deceased had entered their house in an intoxicated state and attempted to molest his wife. In self-defense, they resorted to using sticks to subdue him. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident.
