Alipurduar, 21st December: A truck abruptly lost control and rammed into shops on the roadside while attempting to evade collision with a wild elephant. As a result of the mishap, three shops were damaged and the driver of the truck was injured. The incident occurred in the Dalsing Para GST More area under the Kalchini block of the Alipurduar district.
As per details gathered, late on Wednesday night, an elephant suddenly appeared in front of a truck headed towards Hasimara from Jaigaon. During this, the driver of the truck attempted to save the elephant, however, the truck abruptly lost control and rammed into three roadside shops. Consequently, three shops were damaged and the driver was injured.
Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the spot, rescued the driver, and took him to the Latabari Rural Hospital for medical care. Later, he was referred to Alipurduar District Hospital.
In this regard, the businessmen claimed an estimated loss of about lakhs of rupees. Meanwhile, the front of the truck has been damaged in the incident.
