Jalpaiguri, 21st December: A tragic road accident on the Jalpaiguri-Haldibari state road claimed the life of a female examination candidate in the Sardarpara area. The woman died after a truck hit the motorcycle she was travelling on, while her husband and four-year-old child narrowly escaped with serious injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Madhabi Barman Sarkar. According to sources, she was on her way to appear for a constable recruitment examination and was travelling on a motorcycle driven by her husband. Their four-year-old child was also accompanying them.
Reports said that a ten-wheeler truck suddenly rammed into the motorcycle at high speed in the Sardarpara area. Madhabi Barman Sarkar was run over by the truck and died on the spot. Her husband and child sustained serious injuries in the accident.
After the incident, the truck driver fled the scene. Police reached the spot soon after and seized the truck involved in the accident. The injured were rushed for medical treatment.
Police have started an investigation into the incident and efforts are underway to trace the absconding truck driver.
