Siliguri, 29th October: Panitanki Traffic Guard conducted a special enforcement drive at Hawkers Corner in Siliguri on Thursday to control traffic congestion ahead of the Diwali festival. Traders occupying roads to conduct business were warned, while vehicles illegally parked on the roads were fined.
Traffic congestion has been a longstanding problem in the Hawkers Corner area. With the number of shoppers expected to increase during the festive season, the traffic police carried out the drive to prevent the situation from worsening.
During the operation, police found several traders occupying substantial portions of the road by displaying merchandise outside their shops. This was causing difficulties for both pedestrians and vehicular movement.
The traders were directed to remove all goods from the roads and keep them within their designated shop areas. Vehicles found illegally parked on the roads were also fined.
The police issued a strict warning to the traders, stating that legal action would be taken against those found continuing to encroach on roads for business activities.
