Alipurduar, 20th January: After over five months, the Torsa Tea Garden in Alipurduar has officially reopened, relieving its workers. The garden had been closed since August last year, leaving 662 workers without employment and unpaid wages.
The closure caused significant distress to the workers, who were left without any source of income because the garden management failed to pay their dues.
On Monday, with the garden’s reopening, Chinmoy Dhar, a representative of the garden management, stated that they had entered into a bilateral agreement to reopen the garden. He assured that all outstanding wages will be cleared soon and that all issues will be resolved promptly.
