India’s Mariyappan Thangavelu, on Tuesday, won a silver medal while Sharad Kumar took Bronze in the men’s high jump (Sport Class T42) event. This has taken India’s medal tally in Tokyo to a double-digit mark.
Mariyappan, who had also secured a gold at Rio Paralympics in 2016, kicked off the event with a 1.77m jump in the first attempt. The 26-year-old then cleared the 1.80m mark also comfortably and in his third jump, the star Indian crossed the 1.83m mark.
Sharad Kumar, who was also a part of the finals, kicked-off the show in a similar fashion and was ranked on the top alongside Mariyappan until the 1.83m mark. However, Sharad failed to breach the 1.86m mark and slipped to the third position.
