Bagdogra, 29th January: The Darjeeling District Unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to hold a counter public meeting in Bagdogra following controversial remarks by Union MoS Sukanta Majumdar.
The meeting is scheduled for Friday at the Santoshi Mandir ground in Bagdogra. Last Saturday, Majumdar had accused Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh and Matigara Panchayat Samiti Saha-Sabhapati Sushanta Ghosh of being “land mafia” and alleged that Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti Sabhapati Anand Ghosh took 40% commission in the Pathashree project.
Following these statements, political tensions escalated, prompting the TMC to stage a counter public meeting at the same venue. On Thursday, TMC Chairperson Sanjay Tibrewal, along with Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh and other leaders, inspected the site.
The TMC leadership said that the central minister made personal attacks rather than engaging in political debate and added that the meeting aims to raise awareness among the public.
