TMC stages protest march in Siliguri alleging harassment of common people in name of SIR

Siliguri, 25th January: Alleging harassment of ordinary citizens and loss of lives due to an “unplanned and inhuman” Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, the Trinamool Congress organised a protest and rally in Siliguri on Sunday. The programme was organised by the Siliguri Town Block 2 unit of the party.

The protest march began from Hathi More in the afternoon and passed through several city routes before culminating at Pakurtala More. During the march, party leaders and supporters raised slogans against the Centre, accusing it of targeting common people under the guise of voter list revision.

Trinamool leaders alleged that people are being unnecessarily harassed in the name of electoral roll correction and that attempts are being made to curtail democratic rights through the SIR process.

The protest saw the presence of Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, SJDA Chairman Dilip Dugar, along with other Trinamool Congress leaders, workers and supporters.
