Rajganj, 18th November: A dramatic turn of events unfolded during the cooperative elections in Belakoba Krishi Samanay Samiti under Rajganj Assembly, as two independent winning candidates joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC), enabling the party to secure a majority.
In this 9-seat association of Sariam Krishi Unayan Samabay Samiti Limited, the election results initially saw TMC securing 4 seats, BJP 3, and independent candidates 2. However, the situation changed swiftly after the counting of votes when Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy publicly welcomed the two independent winners, Pashan Sarkar and Bikash Roy, into TMC by holding their hands and presenting the party flag outside the counting center. This shifted the final tally to TMC 6 and BJP 3, giving TMC control of the board.
A total of 324 voters participated in the election, which took place at Belakoba Sariam Kalibari SC Primary School in Jalpaiguri Sadar Block. The contest saw nine candidates from TMC, nine from BJP, five from CPM, and seven independents vying for the seats.
Following the defection of the two independents, the Trinamool Congress will now form the board of the cooperative society.
