Jalpaiguri,18th July: Trinamool Congress Jalpaiguri District President Krishna Kumar Kalyani visited Swapna Barman’s house on Saturday and spoke at length with her. He expressed objection concerning the raid conducted by the forest officials at her house.
The District President stated that the campaign carried out on behalf of the forest officials in an Arjuna awardee’s house could not be accepted in any way.
It is to be noted, the Asian Games gold medal winning heptathlete Swapna Barman’s house at Kaliaganj, Jalpaiguri was raided by forest department officials for alleged illegal possession of timber. However, Barman claimed that she ‘did not steal’ anything. Allegedly, the forest officials gave her a 30-day notice to produce a supporting document of the purchase.
State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed anger over the role of forest officials in the Swapna Barman timber scandal case and announced the transfer Belakoba Range Officer Sanjoy Dutta. Meanwhile, the residents of various villages in Belakoba expressed displeasure over the decision and staged demonstrations.
