Siliguri, 26th January: One of the major attractions of the Uttar Banga Utsav is the ‘Siliguri Marathon’. Reportedly, the Agrani Sangha has been organizing Siliguri Marathon every year in collaboration with the North Bengal Development Department. The State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb inaugurated the event, on Sunday morning, from Siliguri’s Hashmi Chowk. Several people participated in the Half marathon (21 km) and the Mini Marathon (8 km) categories.
Tirtha Pune, a resident of Shillong won the competition. Shankar Mann Thapa, a resident of Siliguri secured the second position and Sandeep, a resident of Haryana secured the third position. The winners and the runners-up were awarded cheques of Rs. 1 lakh, 50 thousand and 25 thousand respectively.
On the other hand, in the 8-kilometer race, Vikas Bhujel, a resident of Kalimpong won the competition from the men’s category and Anisha Munda, a resident of Bagdogra, Siliguri won the competition from the women’s category.
Apart from this, a 4-kilometer dream run was also organized. The participants were provided with T-shirts and certificates.
