Thunderbolt kills an elephant in Alipurduar

Alipurduar, 04th May: An adult elephant was killed by lightning at the Khauchandpara area near Jaldapara National Park in Alipurduar, after heavy rainfall and thunderstorm lashed on the region yesterday evening.


As per the report, the forest workers were chasing the elephant into the forest after it wandered out for food, late Monday night. As soon as the elephant reached the local primary school ground, it was hit by a flash of sudden lightning and died on the spot.

According to the forest department, the elephant carcass has been taken to the forest for an autopsy.
