Three new traffic restrictions come into effect in Siliguri from today

Siliguri, 25th January: In view of the increasing number of road accidents, three new traffic regulations have been implemented in Siliguri from Sunday. The Traffic Department of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police has enforced these rules on several major city routes, including the Eastern Bypass.

The new regulations include revised movement timings for dumpers, medium and other heavy vehicles, a complete ban on the movement of dumpers inside the city during daytime and evening hours, and the introduction of multiple route diversions for goods-carrying vehicles.

DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed stated that the rules were formulated after a detailed monitoring and review of traffic movement in Siliguri and on the Eastern Bypass, following the directives of Police Commissioner C Sudhakar.

As per the new rules, the movement of medium and large goods vehicles on the Eastern Bypass has been restricted for 9 hours in a 24-hour cycle. Goods vehicles will be allowed only between 10:00 pm and 8:00 am. No trucks or goods vehicles will be permitted between 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the Eastern Bypass.

Within Siliguri city, dumpers will not be allowed to operate during the day and evening hours, effectively banning their movement inside the city during these periods. Heavy and goods vehicles will also be restricted from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on key routes, including Bhaktinagar Checkpost to Panitanki More, Airview More and Venus More, Ghogomali More to Court More, Jhankar More to Matigara Hospital Road, and Champasari More to Gulma Railway Station Road.

Separate routes have been designated for medium and large goods vehicles entering the city and for vehicles heading towards the hills via Matigara-Khaprail and the Checkpost. External goods vehicles have also been assigned specific routes through the Eastern Bypass and the Naukaghat More.

DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed has appealed to citizens and transport operators to strictly follow the new traffic rules to ensure smooth movement and improved road safety across Siliguri.
