Rajganj, 09th January: The three-day District folk, Tribal culture and Jatra festival was inaugurated at the Belakoba Public Club ground in Rajganj block on Friday. The event began with a grand procession and lighting of lamps.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy, Jalpaiguri Zilla Parishad Sabhapati Krishna Roy Barman, Additional District Magistrate Rajesh Rathore, Rajganj Panchayat Samiti Sabhapati Rupali Dey Sarkar, Archana Roy, Arindam Banerjee, and other dignitaries.
The festival is being organised under the initiative of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, with support from the District Information and Culture Department, Jalpaiguri, and the district administration. Artists from various parts of the state and district, including Rajbanshi and tribal performers, are participating. The programme will showcase folk dances, folk music, and Jatra performances.
Organisers said the festival not only highlights the region’s culture and heritage but also provides a significant platform for local artists to display their talents.
