Three arrested for extorting by posing as policemen in Siliguri

Siliguri, 28th August: In a significant breakthrough, the undercover police of the Pradhan Nagar police station busted a gang and apprehended three individuals for deceiving people by posing as policemen. The arrested culprits have been identified as Sourav Dey, Khokon Sarkar, and Sarju Basak.


As per reports, on August 24, a group of miscreants in a vehicle, posing as police officers, pulled over a four-wheeler adjacent to Champasari’s Nivedita Road and searched the occupant of the car. During this, the gang extorted Rs 50,000 from the occupant of the vehicle. In response, the victim filed a formal complaint at the Pradhan Nagar Police Station. On the basis of the complaint, an investigation was initiated by the police.

Subsequently, on the night of August 25, the undercover cops arrested the driver Sarju Basak, and also seized the auto of the fake police gang from the Pramod Nagar area behind the Commissionerate building.


The following day, police produced the accused Sarju in Siliguri court and took him on a 4-day remand for interrogation. During the interrogation, the names of two more accomplices came to the fore. Eventually, on Sunday night, the suspects, Saurav Dey and Khokon Sarkar were arrested from the PWD building area near Siliguri Junction. On Monday, the accused were produced before the Siliguri court. Currently, the police are engaged in a detailed investigation of the matter.
