Third accused arrested in retired DSP’s house theft case in Siliguri; silver items recovered

Siliguri, 02nd October: Matigara Police have arrested a third accused in connection with the theft at the house of retired DSP Hemant Das in Siliguri’s Shardapally area. The accused has been identified as Lakshmi Chand Shaw, a resident of Raiganj.

According to police sources, the theft took place on 26th August at Hemant Das’s residence in the Shiv Mandir Shardapally area under Matigara Police Station. The thieves allegedly entered the house and fled with a large quantity of silver jewellery, brass and bronze items, along with around ₹2,000 in cash.

Based on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested Dhiraj Shaw, a resident of Shaktinagar under Raiganj Police Station. During questioning, police recovered around 10.5 kg of brass and bronze items from the house of Gulshan Khatun in the Bypass Road, AH-2 area under Matigara Police Station. Gulshan Khatun was subsequently arrested.

During the investigation, police allegedly learned that Dhiraj had handed over the stolen silver items to his brother, Lakshmi Chand Shaw. Police arrested Lakshmi Chand Shaw from Raiganj on Thursday night.

Based on his indication, police recovered the stolen silver items from a secluded spot in the Goruhati area, where they had allegedly been hidden underground. Police dug up the area and recovered the items.

According to police sources, Dhiraj allegedly handed over the stolen silver items to his brother Lakshmi after the theft, while the brass and bronze items were allegedly sold to Gulshan Khatun.

Lakshmi Chand Shaw was produced before the Siliguri court on Friday. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
